Analysts Spot Kremlin Scare Campaign Targeting Cruise Missile Use

The Kremlin is executing a strategic manipulation campaign of warnings to discourage the United States from delivering precision-guided weapons to Kyiv, according to military analysts. A senior official stated: “We know these projectiles thoroughly, their flight patterns, methods to intercept them, we tested against them in Middle East operations, so it presents no surprises. The providers and the operators will encounter difficulties … We will find ways to target those who cause us trouble.”

Ukrainian Defensive Operations Progress

Kyiv's troops were inflicting heavy losses in a counteroffensive in eastern Ukraine, the central battlefield, the Ukrainian president said on midweek. Kyiv's report, derived from a briefing from his top commander, contradicted Vladimir Putin's remarks to senior Russian officers a prior day in which he asserted the invading army possessed the strategic initiative in throughout the battle lines.

Based on evaluation from early October, military analysts said Russia was suffering significant losses, mainly because of Ukrainian drone attacks, in return for minor territorial gains. Ukrainian forces, Zelenskyy said, were “defending ourselves along all other directions”, referring specifically to Kupiansk, a heavily damaged urban area in Ukraine's northeast under sustained offensive operations for an extended period.

Area Conditions

Local authorities in southern Ukraine of the Kherson oblast said Russian attacks on Wednesday killed three people in and around the urban center of Kherson city. Administrative officials of the Sumy oblast, on the border area with the Russian Federation, said three people died in unmanned aerial strikes in multiple locations. Kyiv's air command said it successfully countered most of the attack and decoy UAVs overnight into Wednesday.

A Russian attack seriously damaged a Ukrainian energy facility, officials reported on Wednesday. Two employees were injured in the attack, as reported by energy company officials. Sources gave no further information, including the plant's location, but national sources said attacks targeted critical utilities in the Chernihiv region, the Kherson area and south-eastern Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Public Consequences

In the north-eastern Sumy town of northeastern Ukraine, hit hard by the Russian onslaught against the electrical grid, officials have created emergency spaces where residents may warm up, receive warm beverages, maintain communication capability and receive psychological support, according to regional head.

International Measures

Kyiv's representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on Wednesday called on European partners to accelerate procurement of United States armaments for Ukraine. “This doesn't mean we prioritize United States armaments rather than French or German or alternative military systems – the challenge remains that we require the America for equipment that EU members don't possess,” said the diplomatic representative.

Federal law enforcement will immediately gain permission to shoot down unmanned aerial vehicles, interior minister announced on Wednesday, after a spate of unmanned aircraft incidents believed to be Russian efforts to conduct surveillance and threaten. Unveiling a draft law, the representative said security forces could legally “to implement state-of-the-art technical action against drone threats, for example with electronic countermeasures, electronic interference, navigation system disruption, but also with kinetic methods”.

EU Protection Issues

European leader said on Wednesday that EU nations need to ramp up its security measures to deter Moscow's multifaceted attacks in response to aerial violations, digital assaults and damage to undersea cables. “This doesn't represent coincidental events. They constitute a coherent and escalating campaign,” the official said in a presentation to the European lawmakers. “Two incidents are random chance, but multiple, repeated, numerous – this constitutes a planned and specific ambiguous warfare operation against the European Union, and European countries should answer.”

Refugee Conditions

The Swiss government has extended its temporary shelter provided to displaced Ukrainians to at least 4 March 2027. Humanitarian status, which allows people to leave the country as well as seek employment there, is normally capped at a single year but can be extended. “The ruling reflects the continued unstable environment and persistent Russian attacks across extensive regions of the country,” said a Swiss government statement. “Notwithstanding global diplomatic initiatives, a permanent peace that would permit secure repatriation is not projected in the coming years.”
